how to wear white boots
I never thought I’d see the day but I am now the proud owner of a pair of white knee high boots.
Can I pull this off and not look like a go-go dancer? Yes, I believe I can.
This is my favourite purchase so far this year. They go with so many existing outfits and breathe new life into many old favourites.
I have fallen hard. So hard in fact that I am now seriously considering a pair of white ankle boots.
I get tired of dark winter clothes really fast and there’s nothing like some lightness to elevate a potentially drab winter look. They look modern but not so trendy that I feel foolish.
White boots don’t seem as daring as they did say a year ago because we’ve all seen street style photos of people looking spectacular in them. But even amidst all this inspiration, there still is this disconnect of how to actually wear them.
Believe me, adding a pair to your wardrobe is the easiest update you can make but there are a few simple rules to keep in mind.
Absolutely avoid a platform
You will look like a go-go dancer. Nuff said.
Mind the gap
Personally, I don’t like a mini skirt/dress with long boots, particularly white. It’s that go-go dancer thing again. My tip is to stick to midi or maxi lengths so you don’t see a gap between the top of the boot and the hemline.
Keep them clean
If you intend to wear them a lot (say on the commute to work) consider a timber or black heel. A white leather heel with scuff. Use a protective spray, get some white boot polish… do whatever it takes to keep your babies fresh and clean. Roll up the cuffs
If you are wearing them with trousers or jeans crop/ roll up the cuffs to show off your mighty whities in their full glory. White boots will be the hero of your outfit so do not hide them under a boot-cut with just the toe poking out. Be bold or forget about it.
Apart from that, experiment with adding the white boot to looks you already love.
Here’s some inspo.
