check yourself: 2019 plaid update
Saying that plaid is having a style moment is like calling denim a trend.
Plaid is one of those things that transcends seasons and becomes a must-have wardrobe staple.
It makes sense that plaid would withstand the trend test—it's incredibly versatile and goes with anything from a crisp white cotton shirt to jeans and graphic tee.
So while it’s true that these traditional prints may not be new or groundbreaking, the styling is.
After months of style envy, I’ve decided to investigate new ways to bring the pattern into 2019 and narrowed down some modern ways to wear plaid.
Here are 3 ways you can own the look now….
Understated and classic
Go with low key, neutral plaids or just hints of plaid in an accessory for an understated play on the print. Keep the focus on the pattern with a restrained colour palette and ensure the look is modern with contemporary cuts like jogger pants or a wrap skirt.

High Impact
Embrace the classic pattern with full commitment in multiple pieces or a bright new colourway. With all the action in the print, you may want some consistency in the colour theme (or not, depending on how brave you are).

Polished casual
Channel a fierce Charlie’s Angels vibe with a pair of jeans and a tailored plaid blazer. This is a great look for the more casual workplace, particularly over a graphic t-shirt. Jeans become a neutral so a plaid in any colour will work. Wear dressier shoes to elevate the outfit (I’m currently obsessed with white footwear). Bottom line: It’s almost impossible to get this wrong.
